Released in October 1985, on the eve of
the United Nations International Year
of Peace, this statement of the Universal House of
Justice , the international governing council
of the Bahá'í Faith and its international community, was addressed "To the
Peoples of the World." Presented to over 160 heads of state and government over
the past 10 years, it outlines the major prerequisites for, as well as the
obstacles working against, the establishment of world peace.
| "I consider peace between world religions as a prerequisite for peace
among the nations and I am very grateful for this initiative of the
Bahá'í community, for whom I have the greatest regard."
Hans Küng, "The Bahá'í call for peace comes at a crucial moment in the history of humanity. Peace in the contemporary world is no longer an option but a necessity. All leaders and peoples of the world must come to realize this fact, and achieve the maturity which the Bahá'í Faith foresees for the coming of age of humanity." Ervin Lazslo, |
